Welcome to Streetprint Manila

Streetprint Manila is a research project that is part of a larger research endeavour called “Six Continents and Between”. Initiated by Prof. Gary Kelly of the University of Alberta, 6CAB seeks to investigate popular print culture across various geographical, sociocultural, and ethnolinguistic contexts. More specifically, it aims to look at reading patterns and preferences of the Filipino Everyman, or those whom we would largely consider members of the “masa” class.

We also know that more and more local publishers are having their titles converted into e-book formats and distributed to the different e-bookstores. Finally, if we were to predict the state of the e-book industry in the coming years, we would say that it will only continue to grow and reach the US’s current level of e-book maturity in at least 3 years’ time, pushed by 1) the entry of more of the international e-bookstores to the local market, 2) the decreasing prices of devices, and 3) the increasing alternatives for payment available to the ordinary Filipino.
