Welcome to Streetprint Manila

Streetprint Manila is a research project that is part of a larger research endeavour called “Six Continents and Between”. Initiated by Prof. Gary Kelly of the University of Alberta, 6CAB seeks to investigate popular print culture across various geographical, sociocultural, and ethnolinguistic contexts. More specifically, it aims to look at reading patterns and preferences of the Filipino Everyman, or those whom we would largely consider members of the “masa” class.

Flipside and Digital Publishing in the Philippines

How many e-books have now been published in the Philippines, either from indie authors or publishing houses? Unfortunately, to date, there is still no study or data regarding the number of e-books published and distributed by Philippine authors and publishing companies. The National Book Development Board does have some data from their 2012 Readership Survey, however, stating that out of the 90% of Filipinos who read, 7% of those read e-books. Whether these e-books have been legitimately purchased or not was not part of the study.
