What Wattpad?
Other Wattpad titles have “suffered” a similar fate: the rights to many of them were bought for traditional publishing and their original online editions taken down and made unavailable for public reading. While this may prove advantageous to writers who are seeking financial as well as “literary” validation normally associated with print publication, this process of buying rights to stories for traditional publishing seems at odds with Wattpad’s original intent and function. Instead of becoming a platform for “free” distribution, it would seem that Wattpad now merely becomes ground zero for many writers to be discovered for mainstream publication.
