What Wattpad?
Perhaps the greater concern is the issue of transparency, and how being picked up for traditional publishing becomes a paradox. On one hand, the idea of seeing one’s name published still carries with it connotations of legitimacy and value, and perhaps this is one come-on for Wattpad writers to sell the rights to their works to traditional publishers. However, doing so takes their works out of the online realm, effectively delimiting or downsizing what could be a greater audience and market reach. Conversely, keeping their works on Wattpad limits the financial returns writers can gain from selling their work (crowdfunding can be hit or miss), while also perhaps not giving writers the validation they desire.
