What Wattpad?
One such platform that has enabled online self-publishing is Toronto-based website Wattpad, an interactive online writing community established in 2006. Some statistics say that Wattpad gets at least 17 million unique visitors every month, making it one of the biggest platforms for sharing one’s work and reading others’. Because of its relative ease of use and access (one can sign up with the website for free using one’s Facebook account), some people have dubbed it the “Youtube of writing” for combining the social media aspect with the ability to post one’s (literary) writing. The most popular genres are science fiction, fantasy, young adult, fan fiction, and romance.
