Welcome to Streetprint Manila

Streetprint Manila is a research project that is part of a larger research endeavour called “Six Continents and Between”. Initiated by Prof. Gary Kelly of the University of Alberta, 6CAB seeks to investigate popular print culture across various geographical, sociocultural, and ethnolinguistic contexts. More specifically, it aims to look at reading patterns and preferences of the Filipino Everyman, or those whom we would largely consider members of the “masa” class.

Reading By The Numbers

The 2012 Readership Survey was conducted with 1,200 respondents composed of 300 voting-age adults from each of the country’s main regions: the National Capital Region, Balance Luzon (areas within Luzon but outside the NCR), Visayas, and Mindanao. 63.6% of the respondents were from rural areas, while 36.4% were from urban areas. Of these respondents, 7.7% belong to the upper to middle classes, 67.4% belong to the lower middle class, and 24.8% belong to the poorest sections of society. Here are some of the survey’s more interesting results. (For the full survey, click here.)
