Welcome to Streetprint Manila

Streetprint Manila is a research project that is part of a larger research endeavour called “Six Continents and Between”. Initiated by Prof. Gary Kelly of the University of Alberta, 6CAB seeks to investigate popular print culture across various geographical, sociocultural, and ethnolinguistic contexts. More specifically, it aims to look at reading patterns and preferences of the Filipino Everyman, or those whom we would largely consider members of the “masa” class.

Cubao: A Mecca For Texts

Quezon City is the Philippines’ most populous city: at 65 square miles—less than half the size of London, Ontario—it houses around 3 million people according to the 2010 national census. The district of Cubao is an important commercial and cultural area in Quezon City, and it is a bustling urban center that is home to numerous shopping malls, inter-province bus stations, government buildings and offices, sports arenas, flea markets, and business centers.
