Carlo Vergara’s Zsa-Zsa Zaturnah, a graphic novel about a homosexual man who becomes a voluptuous superheroine after ingesting an alien rock, is also a widely known text that has inspired scholarship and garnered cult status. It is critically acclaimed for its humour, but more so for its commentary on gender norms, deconstruction of the Filipino queer experience, and its new spin on the superhero(ine) genre.
