Welcome to Streetprint Manila

Streetprint Manila is a research project that is part of a larger research endeavour called “Six Continents and Between”. Initiated by Prof. Gary Kelly of the University of Alberta, 6CAB seeks to investigate popular print culture across various geographical, sociocultural, and ethnolinguistic contexts. More specifically, it aims to look at reading patterns and preferences of the Filipino Everyman, or those whom we would largely consider members of the “masa” class.

Notes: The story centers on siblings Ian and Leslie, who become at odds with each other when Leslie asks Ian to break up with his girlfriend Imee, a poor vendor who sells fishballs, a Filipino streetfood, for a living. The text is a novelization of a story featured in the TV drama anthology show, Maalaala Mo Kaya? (Would You Remember?). The show dramatizes stories mailed in by viewers. It is the longest-running drama anthology in the Philippines and in Asia, having been on air since 1991. It has also a variety of mixed media spin-offs, from a radio show, to paperbacks, and even a comic book series.
